The Multiple Listing Service -- MLS -- is a system in which brokers cooperate by allowing all Realtor members of the MLS to show and sell their listings. Locally, the Americus MLS includes several real estate companies and all of their agents. It works this way: Any agent of any participating company may show the properties of all participating companies. How does this help the seller? Although the seller lists his or her property with only one broker, the property can be shown by every broker and agent in the MLS, greatly increasing the chances of a sale. How does it help the buyer? The buyer can work with one agent to see the listed properties of all participating companies, and not have to jump back and forth from one company to another and different agents.
